The Corona Australis Star Forming Region

At a distance of about 130 pc, the Corona Australis molecular cloud complex is one of the nearest regions with ongoing and/or recent star formation. It is a region with highly variable extinction of up to AV ∼ 45 mag, containing, at its core, the Coronet protostar cluster. There are now 55 known optically detected members, starting at late B spectral types. At the opposite end of the mass spect...

A molecular disk and dense outflow in Corona Australis

The central region of the molecular outflow in the R Coronae Australis cloud was mapped in HCO+(J = 1 − 0), H13CO+(J = 1 − 0), HCO+(J = 3 − 2) and C18O(J = 2 − 1) with the SEST. In addition to the maps, selected positions were observed in SiO(J = 2 − 1, v = 0). The observations reveal a complex system consisting of a dense core, a rotating molecular disk around the infrared source IRS 7 and a d...

Deep Infrared Imaging of the R Corona Australis Cloud Core

Preliminary analysis is presented for J, H, and K 0 images of the Corona Australis cloud core. Color-color and color-magnitude diagrams reveal relatively few new cluster members. We conclude that the R Cr A infrared cluster consists of only about 30 members and its size reeects the available reservoir of molecular gas.

Multiplicity of young stars in and around R Corona Australis

Context. In star-forming regions like Taurus-Auriga, it has been found that most young stars are born as multiples, which theories for star formation should definitely take into account. The R CrA star-forming region has a small dark cloud with quite a number of protostars, T Tauri stars, and some Herbig Ae/Be stars, plus a number of weak-line T Tauri stars around the cloud found by ROSAT follo...

A Corona Australis cloud filament seen in NIR scattered light II . Comparison with sub - millimeter data

Context. Dust emission and scattering provide tools for the study of interstellar clouds. Detailed knowledge of grain properties is essential for correct analysis of these observations. However, dust properties are suspected to change from diffuse to dense regions. The changes could affect our interpretation of observations from large scales (e.g., clump mass spectra) down to the structure of
